Custom Exercises

Create your own exercise when the built-in catalog doesn't cover something.

If the built-in catalog doesn’t include something you do, make a custom exercise. It behaves exactly like a built-in exercise once it exists.

Creating one

From any exercise picker (when editing a workout or adding an exercise mid-session), tap the New exercise option at the top. You’ll set:

  • Name: how it shows up in pickers and history.
  • Muscle group: pick from the same flat list as the catalog (chest, biceps, abs and so on).
  • Equipment: barbell, dumbbell, machine, bodyweight or other.
  • Default target type: reps or duration. See exercises for the difference.

Custom exercises are tied to your account. They show up in your picker. Other people in your group don’t see them.

Where they live

Custom exercises follow your account across devices:

  • They appear on every device you sign in to.
  • Renaming or editing on one device shows up on the others.
  • Deleting one removes it everywhere, even if you do it while offline.

Use them anywhere

Once a custom exercise exists, it shows up in the same picker as built-in exercises. You can:

  • Add it to any workout template.
  • Pick it as a superset partner.
  • Swap to it from a live session.
  • Use it as the extra exercise when you add one mid-session.

History entries that reference a custom exercise keep working even if you later delete the exercise, because each history set saves the name with it.

When to make a custom one

Reach for custom exercises when:

  • You do a variation that isn’t in the catalog (different grip, different angle, a niche cable setup).
  • You train a sport-specific movement that doesn’t map cleanly to the catalog.
  • The catalog has the lift but the equipment label isn’t a great fit for what you actually use.

If you’d rather see it in the built-in catalog, send us a request. Catalog additions ship to everyone.
